NestCache Privacy Policy
NestCache is a household inventory and organization application designed to help users manage household inventory, shopping lists, recipes, receipts, product information, packages, and related household information.
This Privacy Policy explains how NestCache handles information when you use the application.
1. Information Stored on Your Device
NestCache is designed primarily as a local application. Information you create and manage in NestCache is generally stored on your device.
Depending on the features you use, this may include:
- Inventory items and quantities
- Item names, categories, rooms, and storage locations
- Shopping lists
- Recipes, recipe ingredients, and links between recipe ingredients and My Items
- Item and package barcodes
- Product and package information
- Item prices and estimated shopping totals
- Purchase history used by features such as repurchase suggestions
- Receipt information
- Item and receipt photos
- Application preferences and settings
NestCache does not currently require you to create an account or sign in to use the application.
2. Product and Price Lookups
NestCache includes optional features that can retrieve product or pricing information from third-party product-information services.
When you use one of these features, information necessary to perform the lookup may be transmitted over the internet to the applicable third-party service. Depending on the lookup, this may include a product barcode, product name, or product search term.
NestCache currently uses external product-information services that may include:
- Open Food Facts
- Open Products Facts
- UPCitemdb
These services operate independently of NestCache and may process requests according to their own privacy policies and terms.
NestCache does not use these product lookup requests for advertising or to create a NestCache user profile.
3. Camera and Photos
NestCache may request access to your device's camera or photo library when you choose to use features such as:
- Barcode scanning
- Receipt capture
- Item photography
- Selecting an existing item or receipt image
Camera and photo access is used to provide the feature you requested.
For barcode scanning, the camera is used to read the barcode on your device. Product lookup services receive the resulting barcode value when a lookup is performed, not the camera image or live camera feed.
NestCache does not automatically upload your item or receipt photographs to a NestCache server.
4. Receipt Text Recognition
NestCache may use on-device text-recognition technology to extract text from receipt images.
Receipt text recognition in the current version of NestCache is performed locally on the device. Receipt images are not sent to a NestCache server for text recognition.
5. Voice Add and Speech Recognition
NestCache includes an optional Voice Add feature that allows you to speak item information instead of entering it manually.
Microphone access is requested only when you choose to use Voice Add. Audio is provided to your device's configured speech-recognition service to convert your speech into text for the requested Voice Add operation.
Depending on your device and configured speech-recognition service, speech recognition may involve processing by an external speech-recognition provider and may occur off your device. NestCache does not intentionally store or retain your voice recording. The recognized text is used to provide the Voice Add functionality you requested.
6. Import, Export, and Sharing
NestCache provides features that allow you to import or export information and to use your device's sharing functionality.
Files are transferred when you explicitly choose to import, export, save, or share them.
When you choose to share or save information using another application or service, that application or service may handle the information according to its own privacy practices.
7. Information We Do Not Currently Collect
NestCache does not currently operate a user-account system or a NestCache cloud service for storing your household inventory.
NestCache does not currently collect information for advertising purposes and does not use the Android Advertising ID for advertising.
NestCache does not currently intentionally collect:
- Your name, email address, phone number, or postal address through a NestCache account
- Precise or approximate device location
- Contacts
- Calendar events
- Health or fitness information
- SMS, MMS, or email messages
- Voice recordings for storage or retention by NestCache; optional Voice Add may process speech as described above
- Credit scores, banking credentials, or payment-card information
- Advertising identifiers for advertising purposes
If NestCache's data practices materially change in a future version, this Privacy Policy will be updated as appropriate.
8. Data Retention and Deletion
Information stored locally by NestCache remains on your device until it is removed through available application functions, the application's stored data is cleared through the operating system, or the application is uninstalled, subject to device and operating-system backup or restoration behavior.
NestCache does not currently maintain user accounts or a NestCache cloud database containing your household inventory.
Information transmitted to independent third-party services, such as information submitted for a product lookup or processed by a configured speech-recognition service, may be subject to the retention practices of those services.
9. Security
NestCache uses HTTPS when communicating with the external product-information services used by its current online lookup features.
No method of electronic storage or transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure. Users should consider the sensitivity of information they choose to enter, store, export, share, or provide through Voice Add.
10. Children's Privacy
NestCache is not designed as a children's application and is not currently directed toward children.
NestCache does not knowingly operate an account system or cloud service intended to collect personal information from children.
11. Third-Party Services
Certain optional NestCache functionality depends on third-party services, including product-information services and the speech-recognition service configured on your device. These services are independent of NestCache and may have their own terms and privacy policies.
Users should review the applicable third-party policies if they want additional information about how those services process requests.
12. Changes to This Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated as NestCache changes or as legal, platform, or operational requirements change.
When the policy is updated, the Last Updated date at the top of this page will be revised. Material changes may also be communicated through the application or its store listing when appropriate.
